166th annual Chenango County Fair Talent, Flower Show winners announced

CHENANGO COUNTY – The 166th annual Chenango County Fair brought opportunities for local talent to be highlighted and showcased, and the winners of both the talent show and the annual flower show have been announced.
The fair held its annual talent show on Saturday, Aug. 10. According to talent show coordinator Terri Jackson, this year’s showcase featured 17 acts composed of 22 total contestants. There were two age divisions and four categories.
The Mini Division was reserved for contestants 12 and under.
First place prize in the dance category was earned by Kelsey and Jessica Quiter for their performance, titled “Right Foot/Left Foot.” Anna Thomsen and Leah Gorrell took the variety category with “The Cup Song.”
Mirrah Stewart left with the third place award in the vocal section for her performance of “Hurricane.” Aria Maholchic earned second place with “Let Me Be Your Star.” First place was awarded to Allision Beckwith for her rendition of “On My Own,” of Les Miserables.
The Talent Hunt Division was reserved for entrants 13 and older.
First place in the dance bracket was earned by performer Jackie Murrer for her act titled “Me and You.”
Amy Hogan won third place in the variety category, and Amy Branham earned second place with “Give Your Heart a Break.”
First place resulted in a tie, according to Jackson. Brad Chawgo, for his act titled “3 a.m” and Destinie and Matt Smith, for their performance of “Fairy Tale Princess,” an original song share the honor.
Randy Livingston walked away the third place winner of the vocal bracket for “Bait a Hook,” and Taylor Bliss earned second place for “If I Die Young.”
Tess Markham performed “Titanium,” earning her the first place award.
Said Jackson, “Following the preliminary competition there was a Best of Show competition featuring the first place winners in each division and category.”
Best of Show was awarded by the judges to Destinie and Matt Smith.
Jackson extended appreciated to the competition judges Jamie Carrier, Arianne LoGerfo, Cheryl Nages, and Kaitlyn Jackson; to the Master of Ceremonies John Jackson; and the sound technicians Ken Haynes and Brian Aikens.
According to Jackson, several of the acts at the county level now qualify for the New York State Fair Talent Showcase where contestants will have an opportunity to win ribbons and cash prizes totaling $3,000.
“Best of luck to all our Chenango County representatives,” said Jackson.
According to Garden Club member Jane Clement, the flower show was successful and comprised of 218 total exhibits with 29 adult exhibitioners, and nine youth exhibits from two exhibitioners. There were four club exhibits.
The winning designs for the 2013 design portion include: A Dish to Pass, Barbara Zeller plus the Designer's choice; Family Tree, Ellen Lockhart; Grandma's Feather Bed, Anne Jackson; The Sampler, Debbie Bohringer plus the Novice Award and Award of Excellence; Grandma's Kitchen, Norwich Garden Club; Root Cellar, Della Ericksen Education Award; Around the Farm, Marilyn Carley Artistic Craft plus the Dot Aldrich Award.
Some entrants opted to focus on horticulture rather than design, another popular facet of the flower club community.
The Grower’s Choice and Award of Excellence was presented to Joy Coletta for her Combination Planter, and according to Clement, Coletta also received the Collector’s Showcase Award. Riley Webster received the Youth Award for a coneflower. The Arboreal Award was earned by Monica Jensen for her Hydrangea “Macrophylla Hamburg.” Garrett Bilow received the Award of Merit for his pink petunia hybrid and Bruce Whitney won the Perennial Award for his yellow daylily. The top entrant for bulbs and the winner of the sweepstakes award was Rohimah Sarpin for Lilium Pink.
First place awards were earned by: David Bice, Garrett Bilow, Gary Bilow, Pat Bilow, Debbie Bohringer, Garrett Borrajero, Betsy Campbell, Marilyn Carley, Jane Clement, Jane Coddington, Joy Coletta, Jackie Craine, Della Ericksen, Lonnie Graham, Rena Hall, Jen Hendrickson, Anne Jackson, Monica Jensen, Ellen Lockhart, MaryLou Monahan, Norwich Garden Club, Evan Prindle, Rohimah Sarpin, Riley Webster, Bruce Whitney, and Barbara Zeller.
