OXFORD – Reports of missing items from unlocked cars have been cropping up throughout the county, especially along the Route 12 corridor. On Tuesday, an Oxford resident was arrested for allegedly taking items from a car as well as taking the car itself.

Jennifer E. Hafner (also known as, Jennifer E. Langer), 34, Oxford, was arrested for third degree grand larceny, a class D felony; fourth degree grand larceny, a class E felony; and endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor. Langer allegedly stole a car parked in the Village of Oxford and, along with a 13-year-old female pasanger, drove to the Norwich area.

An off-duty Chenango County dispatcher noticed the vehicle in question pulling into the Wal-Mart parking lot and alerted the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office and the Oxford Police Department. Langer was subsequently located within the store by a sheriff’s deputy where she was taken into custody and later turned over to the Oxford Police Department.
