LaBoca Farmhouse, organic eatery, set for Sept. 22 opening
NORWICH – The first original creators, owners, and operators of the Bohemian Moon in Norwich - Brenda Gibbon and Robert Haltner - are returning to the area with a new business venture: The LaBoca Farmhouse, an organic farm and eatery.
The eatery is located at 934 county Route 33 in the Town of Norwich, approximately 4.5 miles from the Ye Olde Polke Store and roughly five miles from the City of Norwich. The LaBoca Farmhouse is located on the right and is well identifiable by a large sign. The business is slated to open its doors at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22.
“Our concept is Sunday brunch,” said Gibbon. “We’ll have baked goods available as well.”
According to Gibbon, the eatery is seasonal, and since the two are getting a late start this season, it will remain open through November before opening again in the spring.
Gibbon recently completed culinary school at the International Culinary Center in California, which explains the later opening in the season, she said.
“The facility here will be available for catering and private parties,” added Gibbon. With just one day’s notice she said LaBoca can provide patrons with confections including but not limited to: Amaretto pound cake, cheesecakes, fruit and cream pies, tiramisu, and espresso mousse.
Food items can be ordered in advance for weddings, showers, birthday parties, anniversaries, graduations and various other occasions.
While this season the hours of operation are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays, Gibbon said – in the future – there are plans to expand.
One of the highlights of the menu includes a multitude of coffee options. Pour-over coffee, espresso, cappuccino, Mexican hot cocoa and cafe Americanos will all be available.
Gibbon said the brunch menu features both breakfast and lunch-type items. Patrons could opt for quiche, freshly baked scones, yogurt with granola and jam, bacon, sausage, muffins, soups, and even a pulled pork sandwich.
“We also have the original baker from the Bohemian Moon, Skipper Cook, with us to prepare baked goods,” said Gibbon.
Both inside and outside seating are available. The outside view offers sights of the garden and organic farm property.
The inside of LaBoca has been renovated and much of the work has been completed using reclaimed wood, adding to the charm and feel of the establishment. The face of the front counter has been built using an old wooden door.
The decor of the eatery has also been of importance to Gibbon, she said. She explained the use of vinyl album covers as decoration in some areas of LaBoca to add to its uniqueness. It is, of course, not only unique with respect to design, as Gibbon added there isn’t a place in the area quite like the LaBoca Farmhouse.
“I want to bring healthy, fresh ingredients, along with the love of food to the area,” she added, stating the produce on the farm is all organic and pesticide and herbicide-free. “Good coffee, good food, a nice environment and good company.”
Those interested in Sunday brunch can visit the LaBoca Farmhouse on Sept 22, and in the meantime can check labocafarm.com for further information.
