Grand jury indicts seven

NORWICH – The Chenango County grand jury handed up a number of criminal indictments on Wednesday. At a grand jury proceeding, the Chenango County District Attorney’s Office presents evidence against those they wish to prosecute. It is up to the jury to decide if there is enough reasonable cause to charge a person with a felony offense.
Those indicted by the grand jury are arraigned before the county or Supreme Court judge at a later date.
The grand jury indicted seven individuals:
• Sherry L. Taranto, 49, Norwich, was indicted on charges of second degree assault, a class D felony; second degree reckless endangerment, a class A misdemeanor; and third degree assault, a class A misdemeanor.
It’s alleged that Taranto, on or about Aug. 23, 2013 in the City of Norwich, did “with intent to cause physical injury to another person” by means of a “deadly weapon or dangerous instrument” cut an individual on the wrist with a paring knife, according to her indictment.
• Derreck A. Vosburgh, 32, Norwich, was indicted on one count of failure to register as a sex offender, a class E felony.
According to his indictment, it’s alleged that Vosburgh, on or about July 24, did move from a registered address at 5688 state Highway 12 in the Town of Norwich to 2 American Ave., also in Norwich, without notifying the proper authorities.
• Adam E. Stone, 30, Sherburne, was indicted on three counts of second degree forgery, a class D felony; three counts of second degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, a class D felony; and petit larceny a class A misdemeanor.
It’s alleged that Stone, on several occasions and at numerous locations, did with intent to defraud, deceive or injure another person, falsely made completed or altered a written instrument, according to his indictment. Stone is accused of forging another person’s signature on several checks for approximately $300 in cash he was not entitled to. It is also alleged that Stone, in June of 2013, stole a pressure washer, Sears air compressor, antique potato masher, antique library desk and antique desk from a Town of Sherburne residence.
• Timothy M. Norris, 32, McDonough, was indicted on charges of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a class E felony; aggravated driving while intoxicated, a class E felony; and driving while intoxicated, a class E felony.
It’s alleged that Norris, on or about July 6, 2013 in the Village of Oxford, did unlawfully operate a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and while knowing or having reason to know his New York driver’s license was revoked or suspended. It is also alleged that Norris was observed swaying while he walked, speaking with a slurred voice, having bloodshot and watery eyes, and smelling strongly of alcohol prior to his arrest.
He has one prior alcohol-related conviction stemming from December of 2011 in Smithville Town Court.
• Heath A. Woodruff, 28, Binghamton, was indicted on charges of aggravated driving while intoxicated, a class E felony; and driving while intoxicated, also a class E felony.
It’s alleged that Woodruff, on or about July 20, 2013, did operate a motor vehicle on a public highway with a blood alcohol content of .20 of 1 percent or higher, nearly three times the legal limit. It is also alleged that Woodruff was observed swaying while he walked, speaking with a slurred voice, having bloodshot and watery eyes, and smelling strongly of alcohol prior to his arrest.
He has one prior alcohol-related conviction stemming from February of 2006 in Binghamton City Court, Broome County.
• Tyler D. Steiber, 23, Sherburne, was indicted on charges of second degree burglary, a class C felony; fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class A misdemeanor; and petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor.
It’s alleged that Steiber, on or about May 28, 2013, did knowingly enter and unlawfully remain in another individual’s residence with the intent to commit a crime, accused of stealing a 9mm Glock handgun.
• Nathan E. Scheffield, 17, Binghamton, was indicted on charges of first degree criminal sexual act, a class B felony; first degree sexual abuse, a class D felony; and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.
It’s alleged that Scheffield, on or about Aug. 27, 2013 at a Town of Norwich residence, did engage in sexual activity with a person less than 11 years old.
