CHENANGO COUNTY – The local labor market is continuing to see positive trends, as indicated by recent figures released by the New York State Department of Labor Statistics.

The NYS DOL this week released unemployment figures for the month of August. According to the report, the current unemployment rate in Chenango County fell to 6.4 percent, down from 6.6 percent in June and July. This marks the eighth consecutive month the local unemployment rate has dropped since the beginning of the year, when unemployment stood at 9.7 percent.

Moreover, the number of those who are unemployed county-wide also dropped in August to approximately 1,600, more than 100 fewer than in July. That figure had remained at 1,700 for May, June and July this year after steadily declining from 2,500 at the start of the year.
