Hemsley arrested again, remanded to Chenango County Correctional Facility
NORWICH – After an already extensive list of recent run-ins with local law enforcement in the last year, the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office recently released information of another arrest of North Norwich resident Henry Hemsley.
Hemsley, 73, was arrested on Sept. 17 for an active bench warrant issued by the Chenango County Court for failing to comply with conditions of his release. Just days before, on Sept. 12, Hemsley had been arrested on an active bench warrant issued by the Town of North Norwich Court for failure to appear in court on a charge of unlawful growing of cannabis.
Hemsley was arraigned in the Chenango County Court and is currently remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $50,000 cash.
Hemsley also faces a number of other recent charges, including an attempt to run from law enforcement and resisting Sheriff’s deputies during his arrest on Sept. 12.
These recent events stem from a series of occurrences involving Hemsley. In September, 2012, the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant on Hemsley’s residence on County Road 32 that led to the alleged discovery of 45 marijuana plants, two pounds of processed marijuana, and over 200 long guns - some of which were high profile weapons.
In March, Hemsley was arrested again for larceny and trespassing after an incident at the Norwich Wal-Mart. And in August, a warrant for violating the conditions of his release for possession of weapons charges was issued by Chenango County Court after a sheriff’s deputy allegedly observed a marijuana plant growing on Hemsley’s lawn.
