Columbus Day celebration slated for this weekend
COLUMBUS – According to Town of Columbus Supervisor Thomas Grace, Columbus, NY is the nation’s oldest “Columbus.”
The community will gather Saturday, Oct. 12 at Norton Park for a day-long celebration.
Food booths will open at 9 a.m. Grace added there will be donuts and coffee, and a crew will be on hand to make sandwiches on the grill at the main pavilion. Sandwiches will be ready to be served by 10 a.m.
Tractor pull sign-ups begin at 9 a.m. and will begin one hour after registration. Those interested in the tractor pull are asked to contact Pat Johnson at 847-9766.
A dime social is set to run from 10 a.m. through 3 p.m. and local crafters will have booths set up.
“There will be beautiful handmade wares fashioned by local artisans,” said Grace.
Additionally, Columbus’ Citizen of the Year will be honored at 10 a.m.
The Catskill Puppet Theater will present “The Villain’s Mustache” at 10:30 a.m.
Beginning at 12:30 p.m., Grace added, there will be a candy hunt for children 12 and under.
The Midstatesmen’s Barbershop Harmony is slated to perform shortly after at 1 p.m., and will showcase train songs, in conjunction with this year’s theme at Norton Park.
The park is home to the recently painted and roofed train depot that served South Edmeston for years, stated Grace.
Added Grace, “Come one, come all to this family celebration.”
Norton Park is located at 359 Bell Road, at the intersection of county Route 25.
