Homeless man arrested after scuffle with police

A homeless man was arrested by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday, Oct. 20, for a list of charges stemming from one incident and is currently being held at the Chenango County Correctional Facility.

Authorities say Adam Holt, 24, a homeless man from the Norwich area, crashed a car into a ditch in the Town of New Berlin and had called 911 to report the accident. When deputies arrived on the scene, they found that Holt had allegedly stolen the vehicle from a residence in the Town of Columbus. In addition, he was found to be intoxicated at the time of the accident and without a valid New York State driver’s licence.

According to police, Holt resisted arrest and failed to comply with the arrest procedure. A media release from the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office states that Holt was “physically fighting with deputies” and was subsequently charged with four counts of harassment in the second degree “due to the fact that he spit on, threatened, attempted to bite, and kicked a deputy in the face.”
