Hospice announces annual dinner and auction

NORWICH – Autumn is the time of year that we begin to think of upcoming holidays and celebrations. As you are planning for the months ahead, plan on spending an evening of celebration and tribute on Thursday, Nov. 7 at the Hospice of Chenango County’s Annual Dinner and Auction at the Canasawacta Country Club in Norwich. The event is held during November in recognition of National Hospice Month and to provide us the opportunity to honor this year’s Hospice Heroes.
Guests will have the opportunity to start their holiday shopping, bidding on nearly one hundred items on the silent auction table. “We ask individuals and businesses to donate something special for our auction and each year we are overwhelmed with the responses,” said the agency’s Executive Director, Patricia Outhouse. “Among the many items this year are a 1-week Blue Ridge Mountain Log Cabin Retreat and a 1-Year Adult Membership to the YMCA of Norwich.”
Celebrity Waiters will host tables and work for guest’s tips that they donate to Hospice. The Celebrity Waiters become very competitive, trying to best their fellow waiters. It’s a fun and friendly competition. In the past, the waiters have raised as much as $2,500.
The heart and soul of the evening is the public recognition of the 2013 Hospice Heroes. These are the family and community members who have gone over and above what is called upon them in the service of a Hospice patient or the agency. Hospice has selected two families, plus Jeffrey Bagley, Licensed Funeral Director of C.H. Landers Funeral Home and Joe Sugar and Marc Yerton, Hospice Veteran Volunteers.
“Even if you have never needed or used the services of Hospice, there are several reasons to attend the event,” says Patricia Outhouse. “It is an evening full of fun and camaraderie and you may be the winner of an awesome auction item; but most importantly, you’ll learn a lot about an agency that is woven into the fabric of our communities and serves hundreds of Chenango County residents every year.”
If you would like to reserve a seat or a table and support Hospice and applaud its heroes, call the office at 334-3556, or visit the website at hospicechenango.org to download and print the invitation and return to Hospice of Chenango County, 21 Hayes Street, Norwich, NY 13815.
