Greene gridders blanked by Black Knights

Windsor 32, Greene 0
WINDSOR – Windsor senior quarterback Josh Cady accounted for all but 52 of Windsor’s 315 total yards, and the Black Knights’ defense had five interceptions in a shutout win over Greene Friday night.
Cady rushed for 175 yards and two touchdowns, and he passed for 88 yards and another score. “He is a very good player, and he did hurt us,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton of Cady. “We did a good job of containing him most of the time, but he had a couple of big plays. He’s a special athlete.”
Cady had a one-yard TD run in the first, and a key 66-yard TD pass to Frank Martino late in the first half to create a 12-0 lead.
Cady scored on a 63-yard run in the third, Jake Conroy ran for a score in the third, and the Black Knights returned one of Greene’s interceptions for a touchdown to end the scoring.
It was the fourth shutout loss for Greene (3-6), although Gorton likes the progress his team has made. “We were changing a lot of players around throughout the season (due to injuries) and had some different line combinations,” Gorton said. “I am happy with the direction we are headed, and we’re optimistic for next season. The kids (coming back next year) are already talking about getting into the weight room. They want to return to the playoffs.”

JAMESVILLE – Sherburne-Earlville came away with personal-best times from nearly all of its runners at the Section III Class C meet at Jamesville Beach Saturday afternoon.
S-E junior Ian Benedict led the Marauders to a 13th-place finish clocking an 18:45 over the 3.1-mile course to place 39th out of 135 runners, and senior Ryan Palmiter completed his varsity career with his season-low time clocking 19:17 to take 59th. Abby Ryan, a junior for S-E’s girls, was 95th timing 29:07, while senior Sierra Ulrich clocked in at 34:06.
“The entire team was happy with the times, and it was a fitting tribute to the seniors, especially Ryan, to have his best time in his last race,” said S-E coach Anne Geary. “Going into a championship race, (achieving best times) is all you can ask and hope for.”
