CMH Auxiliary announces Festival of Trees

NORWICH – The Chenango Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will present its biannual Festival of Trees fundraising benefit starting at 6 p.m., Nov. 16 at the Canasawacta Country Club, located at 261 County Rd. 44, Norwich.
“Our main goal at the Auxiliary, is to collect as much funding possible throughout the year for the hospital; and this is by far our favorite event,” said Auxiliary member and organizer Nancy Mirabito. She said, “There will be something for everyone this year and this is a great opportunity for the community to not only contribute to the Hospital, but also get some holiday shopping done in the process.”
The event, which has been held more than 20 years, will not only raise funds of the CMH Auxiliary but also serve as a means to ring in the forthcoming holiday season. Cocktail hour and a silent auction will commence at 6 p.m. with dinner to follow at 7 p.m. Festive music provided by local band “Splash” will keep attendants entertained, and the auction will continue until 11 p.m.
Auxiliary members have displayed items which will be included in the silent auction Monday inside the NBT Bank main lobby on South Broad Street in Norwich. The Public is welcome to browse the displays and enter bids for the auction through Friday, as this is the single largest fundraiser for the organization.
Items on display will include an assortment of holiday and non-holiday gifts and decoration including Christmas trees, swags and wreaths. Some other items up for auction are an iPad mini, Amish-made wood products, a queen sized handmade quilt crafted by the Chenango Piecemakers Guild and gift baskets donated by the Norwich Merchants Association.
The CMH Auxiliary donates funding to an array of UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital (CMH) programs. In 2013, The Auxiliary's board members presented a donation of $27,000 to UHS CMH's President and CEO Dr. Drake Lamen. This year's donation will be used to support the Hospital's patient services and will assist in upgrading the phlebotomy room and MRI breast imaging services.
In addition to their philanthropic monetary donations, the Auxiliary serves as the voice of the Hospital, offing a channel of outreach and communication to the community and patients. The most relevant duty of the organization today is its role of advocacy to the Hospital.
Founded more than 102 years ago, The Chenango Memorial Hospital Auxiliary has been the driving force of fundraising for the 58-bed rural upstate hospital since its inception. The Auxiliary was solely responsible for funding and managing construction of the original facility in 1912. The UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital of today employs over 500 people, making it the largest employer in the City of Norwich and the fifth largest employer in the county.
The event is open to the public. The CMH Auxiliary encourages all those who would like to donate to UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital and enjoy some fun festive holiday mingling to attend. Tickets are $65 each and include hors d'oeuvres, dinner with wine and entertainment for the evening.
