Kicinski announces second congressional run

NORWICH – Michael Kicinski, a longstanding affiliate of the Tea Party Patriots, announced Wednesday that he will make another run for United States Congress in 2014.
Kicinski, an Earlville resident, formally announced his candidacy from the Tea Party Patriots headquarters on South Broad Street in Norwich. Additional stops included one in the Village of Endwell in Broome County, and another scheduled today in the City of Utica in Oneida County.
Despite losses in the primary and general election in 2012 to incumbent Republican Congressman Richard Hanna, the New York 22 District candidate says he will have an edge in 2014 as more citizens “become aware of the freedoms they’re losing.”
“We are a nation that is currently on the brink of disaster,” said Kicinski in his candidacy announcement. “Seventeen trillion dollars in debt and rising every day, and our government tells us the best way to eradicate these trillions of dollars of debt is to spend more money.”
Kicinski continued, “I refuse to give my children an America where the Constitution is being trashed and shredded ... We are told that stripping away the Amendments to the Constitution is protecting the collective and that should come before the rights of the individual. That is not our constitutional republic.”
Kicinski said as a candidate, he intends to address state and national issues that have garnered the spotlight in the last year, including hot-button disputes like the New York State Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement (SAFE) Act of 2013 and the national Affordable Health Care Act, colloquially referred to as “Obamacare.”
“People are starting to realize what a disaster these policies are,” Kicinski said. “Even Democrats are trying to distance themselves from them.”
In the 2012 general election, Kicinski ran on the Tea Party Patriots ticket after losing the Republican primary. He took in about 30 percent of the votes district-wide in the primary, and as much as 45.5 percent in Chenango County.
While his candidacy announcement comes early – nearly one year before the 2014 general elections – Kicinski has already gained full support of many local residents, including Norwich Tea Party Group founder Charles Resseguie.
“He is a man of excellent integrity, who loves our state and our country,” Resseguie wrote in a statement endorsing Kicinski. “We need to be guided by our constitution which says our government is to be of the people, by the people and for the people. Honest, truthful government is what Mike will renew for all of our citizens.”
