Preparations underway for community Thanksgiving dinner

NEW BERLIN – Every year, the New Berlin United Methodist Church prepares for its Community Thanksgiving Dinner with great success. This year will be no different.

This year’s dinner will start promptly at 11:30 a.m. and continue until 1:30 p.m. On Nov. 28 – Thanksgiving Day – at the First United Methodist Church located at 51 S. Main St. in the Village of New Berlin.

“We're very much like a big family here in the New Berlin area. The dinner is much like any other typical family Thanksgiving dinner get-together and we are not here to promote any sort of religion,” said Becky Reidenbach, correspondent and secretary for the Community Thanksgiving Committee.

Reidenbach said, “The purpose of the event is to promote a sense of community and giving thanks for all who attend. Although the meal is free of charge, It's certainly not exclusively for people who are unable to afford the meal themselves.”

As in past years, not only will the free dinner be available for New Berlin residents, but also neighbors from as far as South New Berlin, Edmeston and Norwich who will be welcomed to celebrate the holiday with a turkey dinner with all the trimmings. “Shut-in” meal deliveries – for those who are unable to travel to the event – will he handled by the individual churches based on proximity.
