Bonney tabbed to preseason all-America team
GENEVA – Hobart College senior forward Richie Bonney was named to the preseason all-America fourth team by D3hoops.com, the premier website for NCAA Division III basketball. Bonney and the Statesmen were picked to repeat as Liberty League Champions in the preseason coaches poll that was released earlier this week.
Bonney, who had a tremendous junior year, is poised for yet another dominant season. He started all 28 games last year, averaging team-highs of 19.5 points (34th in the nation), 8.7 rebounds 1.1 steals, and 0.8 blocks per game. Bonney was lauded with several honors, including NABC all-East second team, D3hoops.com all-East second team, ECAC Upstate all-Star first team, all-BCANY, and all-Liberty League first team.
Bonney scored a season-high 40 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in a regular season game at Rensselaer. He also was able to drop in 34 points and grab 15 rebounds in the regular season finale against St. Lawrence.
Off the court, Bonney is an exceptional student as well garnering Capital One Academic all-America first team accolades. Bonney just the second Statesman cager to secure Academic all-America praise, and the first to earn a spot on the first team.
Halberg named all-Conference
ONEONTA – The State University of New York Athletic Conference has released its 2013 All-Conference Team for men’s soccer and SUNY Oneonta was well represented with a total of seven selections spread over the three teams. The Red Dragons had four first team, two second team, and one third team selection this fall.
First team selections for Oneonta are senior Luke Halberg (Norwich/Valley Heights Christian Academy), juniors Justin Rivera (Bay Shore/Bay Shore) and Scott Taglione (Ballston Lake/Shenendehowa) and sophomore Dylan Williams (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury). Halberg and Rivera were first team players last year while Taglione was a third team selection in 2012.
A member of Oneonta’s 2012 SUNYAC championship team, Halberg started 18 games this season registering four goals and two assists for 10 points. Two of his four goals were game-winners.
