Body found in Unadilla River

BUTTERNUTS (OTSEGO COUNTY) – Police say they may have found the body of 45-year-old Daniel Reimers, a New Berlin resident who was reported missing earlier this month.
According to authorities, the body was found underwater along the eastern shore of the Unadilla River in the Town of Butternuts, approximately two miles south of the Village of South New Berlin. The discovery follows a two-week missing person investigation led by the Town of New Berlin Police Department, aided by New York State Police, New York State Forrest Rangers, the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office and several civilian volunteers.
The New Berlin Police received additional assistance from the New Berlin Fire Department, canine search and rescue dogs from the Kramer Foundation in Chemung County, as well as surveillance support provided by Strategic Communications in Vestal.
Reimers had been reported missing on Nov. 7 by his roommate. Friends say Reimers did not return home on that day, although his winter coat, cell phone and medication were left at his home on state Route 8 in New Berlin.
At this time, the New Berlin Police say although the investigation into the death is still ongoing, there are no indications of criminal activity.
Anyone with further information relevant to the investigation is asked to call the New Berlin Police at 607-847-8900.
