BOOKS program awards $7,200 to libraries

Morrisville State College and Senator Tom Libous BOOKS program recently awarded $7,200. in grant finding to 24 local libraries in Broome, Tioga, Chenango and Delaware counties.
The BOOKS (Books Open Opportunities for Kids to Succeed) program is a partnership between Morrisville College and Senator Libous, which offers a variety of programs and funding to incentivize reading among school-aged children.
Each of the libraries will be allocated $300 to be used for purchasing new children’s books in an effort to expand and promote child literacy.
“Reading is one of the most fundamental life skills that can assure a child’s success in school and in life,” said Libous. “By creating free programs especially for tham, we make the library an exciting place for fun and learning.”
