Oxford Memorial Library offers winter activities
OXFORD – As cold winter weather only looks to continue in Chenango County, finding activities to keep everyone entertained indoors can be a daunting and elusive task.
The Oxford Memorial Library, with the aid of the Oxford Historical Society, is doing its part in keeping the community active and warm with a host of activities and presentations scheduled for the month of December.
On Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 7:30 p.m., the Oxford Memorial Library Community Room will be the setting for the Oxford Historical Society’s (OHS) holiday meeting and nostalgic sing-a-long program called, "Seasonal Songfest and Memories of Christmases Past."
The old fashioned OHS community holiday sing-a-long is back by popular demand. Following a quick business meeting, the Oxford Academy Music Directors Michael Moren and Corey Riley will lead high school students of the chorus ensembles and brass musicians in festive songs.
Prior to the event, the Oxford Garden Club will have festively decorated the library for the holiday season. Everything will be festooned with evergreen garlands, ribbons, and ornaments so the library will be very beautiful, just in time for this program.
Community members will be encouraged to join in singing some nostalgic tunes and some more modern holiday numbers.
Adding to the camaraderie, audience members will share their favorite Christmas-time memories. Refreshments, including OHS' famous eggnog, will be served during the event, so warm up your good singing voice and bring your family and friends to enjoy the evening of song.
A creative holiday crafts evening with Kris Clark geared toward teenage crowd is also scheduled this month. At 7 p.m. on Dec. 5, the library will host the festive arts and crafts event in conjunction with Bill Brower's “The Polar Express Story Time,” which is focused on entertaining elementary students. Story time will be held in the downstairs community room, starting at 6:30 p.m. The combination of events promises to make an excellent opportunity for the whole family to come and enjoy some time together among the community. Teens and “tweens” who wish to participate in the craft class should wear old clothing as painting will be involved.
For more information, contact The Oxford Memorial Library at 843-6146. The nonprofit Oxford Historical Society hosts educational and cultural programs free to the public. To contribute to the OHS, or for more information call 821-1223 or email museum@oxfordny.com.
