OXFORD – Unatego’s guard-laden offense had too much quickness for Oxford in Wednesday’s Midstate Athletic Conference battle.
Tanner Winchester consistently beat the Oxford defense into the lane finishing with a game-high 29 points. Winchester and teammate Kellen Komenda also split four three-pointers.
“They screen well and get open looks, but they also do a lot of driving to the basket,” said Oxford coach Tim Davis of Unatego. “We just needed a couple more quick guys to match them.”
Oxford trailed by nine early in second quarter. Three straight three-pointers by Cameron Heggie and two buckets from Matt Moore helped tie the game at 21-21. Unatego finished the quarter on an 11-0 run, and kept the lead in double digits for most of the second half. “We never could respond from their run at the end of the first half,” Davis said.
Heggie led Oxford with 23 points, Kevin Davis scored 15, and Moore had 11. Oxford is idle until Dec. 27 when it plays at the Unadilla Valley tournament.

NEW BERLIN – Despite 10 three-pointers from Walton, Unadilla Valley won for the fourth time in five outings Wednesday night.
Tied after one period, UV outscored the Warriors 25-12 in the second period to take command. Sophomore David Dufresne scored 15 of his season-high 32 points in the second stanza. “We defended much better in the second quarter,” said UV coach Matt Osborne. “We put more pressure on them, and were able to get some easy baskets.”
Nick White added a season-high 15 for UV, most of those points coming on drives to the basket.
Colin Adam had eight three-pointers for Walton, and matched Dufresne’s 32 points.

DEPOSIT – Greene finished the game on a 19-0 run to win for the second time this season Wednesday at Deposit.
Deposit started the fourth quarter on a 13-2 spurt to close to within 48-46. Zach Wentlent kicked off the Greene outburst with one of his three three balls, and scored 14 points in the quarter to finish with a game-high 27 points.
“We started the game energetic, and we finished it behind the senior leadership of Wentlent, (Justin) Ekstrom, and (Brandon) Davis,” said Greene coach Rick Smith.
Ekstrom had 15 for Greene (2-1), and Davis recorded his third straight double-double scoring 13 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Greene hosts Harpursville Friday.

HARPURSVILLE – Harpursville asserted control in the fourth quarter to pull away for the win over B-G Wednesday.
Devon Dean had 17 points for the Hornets and Jon Andrews 14. Mitch Livermore scored six of his eight points during a 25-16 Harpursville fourth quarter.
“They just executed better than us down the stretch,” said B-G coach Greg Warren. “They had a big size advantage, and were able to exploit that late in the game.”
Kyle Hanvey and Ryan Jones scored 13 points apiece for B-G. Mike Carlin added 11 points, seven rebounds, and four steals, and Lucas Butcher dished out six assists.

In a battle of returning Section IV champions, the Bears’ Chris Cirigliano easily decisioned D/H’s Dean Raymond, 10-0 at 113 pounds. B-G/A/H coach Brandon MacNaught made some significant lineup adjustments, and his move of Madison Hoover up to 152 pounds (from his normal weight class of 138) paid dividends. Hoover’s 3-1 decision win over Ethan Wormuth in the penultimate matchup guaranteed the victory as Bears senior Jamie Griswold was awarded a forfeit at 160 pounds to close the meet.
The win moved B-G/A/H’s dual record to 3-0 overall.

OWEGO – In a tightly contested matchup Wednesday night, Owego’s boys delivered the first loss on the Purple Tornado’s record.
The Indians won seven of 12 events, and gained the early advantage winning the 200 free, 200 individual medley, and 50 free in succession.
Norwich’s Killian Benedict swam a season-best 59.58 to win the 100 backstroke, Jon Manwarren captured the 500 freestyle, and Ricky Finnegan won the diving competition. Norwich also nailed down firsts in the 200 medley relay and the meet-closing 400 free relay.

NORWICH – At Plaza Lanes Wednesday, Norwich’s boys avenged a shutout loss to Owego earlier this season with a 3-2 victory.
Dylan Gladstone’s 635 series led Norwich, and Corey Huggins added a team-high 223 series. The victory was the second in three matches for NHS.
Owego’s girls won by shutout, 5-0.

OWEGO – In a tightly contested matchup Wednesday night, Owego’s boys delivered the first loss on the Purple Tornado’s record.
The Indians won seven of 12 events, and gained the early advantage winning the 200 free, 200 individual medley, and 50 free in succession.
Norwich’s Killian Benedict swam a season-best 59.58 to win the 100 backstroke, Jon Manwarren captured the 500 freestyle, and Ricky Finnegan won the diving competition. Norwich also nailed down firsts in the 200 medley relay and the meet-closing 400 free relay.

NORWICH – At Plaza Lanes Wednesday, Norwich’s boys avenged a shutout loss to Owego earlier this season with a 3-2 victory.
Dylan Gladstone’s 635 series led Norwich, and Corey Huggins added a team-high 223 series. The victory was the second in three matches for NHS.
Owego’s girls won by shutout, 5-0.
