Coventry man arrested after life-threatening dispute
COVENTRY – Authorities arrested a Coventry man following a domestic dispute in which he allegedly threatened to stab another person and fired a pistol at the windshield of a nearby vehicle.
According to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office, 56-year-old Ronald Torre, Sr. of Coventry was reported to authorities in a call made during an altercation at a home near North Road and Nursery Street in the Town of Coventry. Officials say Torre had been in a physical argument with the female victim, wielding a knife and threatening to stab her.
During the incident, it is alleged Torre took a handgun and walked outside the residence where he fired one round into the windshield of a parked vehicle, then fled into a nearby barn on the property. It was also reported by the caller that Torre was ill and off his medication.
Torre was intercepted by sheriff deputies, detectives and members of the New York State Police while trying to enter back into the residence.
Torre was taken into custody and charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree and menacing in the second degree. He was arraigned in the Town of Coventry Court and released on his own recognizance by the Coventry judge.
