Visions Federal Credit Union sees The Place through

NORWICH – The Place, also known as The Christian Neighborhood Center of Norwich, Inc., launched its 2014 Annual Campaign at the end of last year with a focus on reaching local businesses for financial support. The organization outreached to more than 600 businesses and plans to shift its focus to individual donors in the spring of 2014.
The Place’s goal is to raise at least $15,000 from the campaign. According to Executive Director Rebecca Sands, the funds raised from the campaign are crucial to The Place and its programs because there isn’t enough grant money to cover all operating expenses.
Sands took over the executive director position at The Place in August of 2013, shortly after programs such as Big Brothers, Big Sisters and Service Learning had closed. Since joining The not for profit organization, Sands has made it a priority to thwart the loss of any further programs.
“It was very upsetting to join the organization at a time when such valuable community programs had been cut due to the lack of funding,” said Sands. “it remains the goal of all of our employees and volunteers to strengthen the programs we have and develop new ones that the youth of our community need” she added.
As with any not for profit service organization, the majority of the funds needed to keep The Place in operation form day to day comes from a combination of grant money and public donations. Moreover, The Place is unique in that it doesn’t produce a product to generate the necessary cash flow to operate, yet it serves the entire community on a daily basis, providing outreach programs and after school childcare to area families.
Despite the lack of funding in the past that led to cutting some of the quintessential programs at The Place, December 2013 brought exciting news by way of a substantial boost to the campaign’s bottom line.
That month, The Place received an reassuring donation of $2,500 from Visions Federal Credit Union. In addition to becoming the first Platinum Sponsor of 2014, Visions also brought the campaign total above the $4,000 mark. Sands said, “This is very encouraging as we are only days into 2014 and we anticipate the campaign will continue to attract new dollars throughout the year.”
Other business/organization sponsors of The Place include Preferred Mutual Insurance at the Gold level and Columbus Community Church; The Mid York Press, Inc.; First Congregational Church UCC; Community Bank, NA; Electron Coil Co., Inc.; Irmin A. Mody Real Estate; R.J. Fahy Funeral Home; Seasons Gift Shop; Sidney Federal Credit Union; Circulars Unlimited/Norwich Pennysaver/The Evening Sun; Ideal Coffee 4 U; VFW Home; Walter O. Rogers Insurance; and Gray & Sons Agency, Inc. at a Bronze level.
