SAUQUOIT – Sherburne-Earlville overcame the absence of one starting guard and the illness of another to improve to 10-0 on the season Thursday at Sauquoit Valley.
Sophomore center Lilly Berg had 21 points, 11 rebounds, and five blocks for the Marauders, who jumped out to a 23-11 lead in the first quarter.
Savannah Irwin scored nine points, but sat out most of the second half due to illness. Fellow starter Jordan van Althuis missed her second straight game due to multiple flight cancellations out of Chicago.
“It was a different kind of feeling in this game,” said S-E coach Karen Mulligan in summing up her team’s performance.
S-E plays at Cooperstown Monday.

Boys’ Basketball

Bainbridge-Guilford 58, Hancock 54 (OT)
BAINBRIDGE – Bainbridge-Guilford’s winless drought ended at seven games as the Bobcats controlled overtime play in Thursday’s win over visiting Hancock.
Ryan Jones’ field goal gave B-G the lead for keeps in OT, Adam Bauerle canned a jumper, and Mike Carlin along with Lucas Butcher combined to make five free throws. “We did a good job on the defensive boards in overtime, and we were aggressive going to the basket,” said B-G coach Greg Warren. “Cole Webb didn’t score, but he did a great job defensively, and was a big part of our success.”
B-G was down four in the final minute of regulation, but forced a tie on buckets by Butcher and Carlin. Carlin led with 20 points, Butcher had a season-high 16, and Kyle Hanvey scored 10.
The Bobcats play at Deposit today.

Boys’ Swimming

Norwich 102, Windsor 81
NORWICH – At Echentile Natatorium Thursday, Norwich set up a showdown for the STAC East division title with Chenango Valley after beating Windsor Thursday night.
Eight Norwich swimmers had first-place finishes in either an individual event or a relay in improving the team’s record to 5-1 overall. “We have a lot of quality depth in our two front lines,” said Norwich coach Kevin Diefenbacher. “Next week’s meet against Chenango Valley should be very competitive. They are a little short-handed, but they still have a strong team. We’ll have to go out and perform to take the title.”
Curtis Woodard won two individual events (200 IM, 500 free), and also took part in a winning relay. Also notching wins in individual events were Jon Manwarren (200 free), Ricky Finnegan (diving), Greg Todd (100 fly), Joe Stagliano (100 free), Killian Benedict (100 back), and Nick Mooney (100 breaststroke).
Norwich is at Chenango Valley next Friday.

UV’s Kurtis Wilson (195) and Alex Avolio (220) received forfeit141/8s for the Storm’s lone victories.

LITTLE FALLS – Sherburne-Earlville’s Zack Miles teased at a 300 game, finished with a 711 series, and the Marauders posted their highest team total of the season (3,213 pins) in a shutout win over Little Falls.
Miles rolled a 287 in his second game to lead S-E. Jordan Mullen had a 693 series, and Jonny Sulton notched a 623 triple. “Everyone bowled great tonight,” said S-E boys coach Don Philhower. “Zack just missed the 300, and he had the front 10. The team really put it together tonight.”
Sherburne-Earlville’s girls remained perfect getting a 549 series from Alyssa Miles in Thursday’s win.
Liesa Armstrong added a 182 game, and Mandi LaClair contributed a 492 series.
