Man airlifted from Rt. 12 accident
OXFORD – Traffic was slowed to a halt on Thursday night as emergency personnel from multiple agencies worked together to assist the scene of a two vehicle motor vehicle accident.
At approximately 7:30 p.m. members of the Oxford Fire Department were called to the intersection of Turner Street and State Highway 12 for a two car MVA.
According to the Chenango Emergency Services Department, a motor coach bus operated by Coach USA from Binghamton, NY was traveling northbound and came into contact with a passenger vehicle.
It was reported that operator of the passenger vehicle had become entrapped, and sustained injuries resulting from the accident that occurred nearly one mile north of the Village of Oxford.
Said A. Wesley Jones of the Chenango County Emergency Services Department, “The City of Norwich Fire Department was dispatched to the scene to extricate the motorist from his vehicle and was later air lifted for treatment of his injuries.”
The crew from Norwich Fire assisted Oxford and worked quickly to extricate the patient.
After the patient was extricated, members of the Oxford Emergency Medical Services initiated patient care while they awaited the arrival of Life Net 7-8.
The patient was transported by Life Net to Wilson Hospital in Binghamton, and no other injuries were reported on the bus.
A representative from Coach USA declined to speak, and no further details about the accident.
The matter is still under investigation with the Troop C New York State Police and the story will be updated as more information becomes available.
