6OTS to host “Two Tall Trees”

OXFORD – Yet another exciting week of live music and entertainment in the Village of Oxford is on tap for anyone looking to get out of the cabin. In addition to its monthly open mic offering 7:30 Thursday, Jan. 16, 6 On The Square will welcome the likes Ben Bedford and Tim Grimm to the stage as a stop on their “Two Tall Trees” Tour.
Tim Grimm and Ben Bedford, two highly acclaimed Midwestern songwriters come to the stage accompanied by the very talented Diederik van Wassenaer on fiddle. An evening with three remarkable artists will make for a brilliant evening in 6OTS.
The quintessential sounds of Middle America will be at the forefront of 6OTS stage, as the intimate venue showcases the two storytelling performers starting at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17.
Tim Grimm grew up in the woods and small town settings of southern Indiana, the son of school teachers and grandson of farmers. He has spent years on stage performing in movies, TV series, and plays.
Grimm draws on his background, bringing an actor's feel of storytelling and drama to his songs, and paints portraits of the lives, strength, determination and resolve of our Midwest neighbors.
Steeped in tradition, his music and lyrics blur the line between Americana and Country and each of his past five recordings have reached the top of the Folk or American-roots charts.
Supplementing his repertoire, Grimm has toured and recorded with his friend, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, appeared with Harrison Ford in the film "Clear and Present Danger", and has shared the stage with writer and poet Wendell Berry. Grimm's 2005 studio offering “The Back Fields" was named Best Americana Album in the 2006 Just Plain Folks Music Awards in Los Angeles.
Additionally, he was named 2000's "Best Discovery in Roots/Americana Music" by The Chicago Sun-Times, and "2004 Male Artist of The Year" by the Freeform American Roots DJs.
On the opposite side of the stage, Ben Bedford, a true son of the heartland, often draws upon history in his songwriting.
Bedford's songs have a strong sense of time and place and his musical storytelling has inspired a genre labeled "American portrait songwriting." He has three albums to his credit.
Bedford's songs take on the heart-wrenching scenarios of homelessness, the plight of a Confederate soldier's wife during the American Civil War, the life of Jack London, the murder of Emmett Till in 1955, John the Baptist among those.
The last time Bedford was at 6OTS, the audience was taken by his lyrics and voice, being drawn to him as he sang stories from this country's past and present.
Accompanying the two singers will be classically trained violinist Diederik van Wassenaer. The Amsterdam native and graduate of Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music does not hold a firm, classical view of the role of violin. Diederik soaked in the sounds of Nashville bluegrass and commands the awe of most every crowd he plays, both in playing and in stature.
