No letdown for NHS swimmers

Norwich 95, Greene 67

NORWICH – In its next-to-last regular season meet of the season, Norwich won 11 of 12 events against local rival Greene, and improved its record to 8-1 on the season Tuesday at Norwich High School.

Despite logging heavy yardage in practice, the Tornado still mustered nine personal-best times, led by Killian Benedict’s season-low 52.91 seconds to win the 100 freestyle. Joe Stagliano (200 free, 100 breaststroke), Curtis Woodard (200 IM), Greg Todd (50 free, 100 fly)), Ricky Finnegan (diving), Nick Mooney (500 free), and Jon Manwarren (100 backstroke) also entered the victory column in individual events.

“We didn’t have any type of letdown, and that was something I was worried about,” said Norwich coach Kevin Diefenbacher. “Our guys have had some really good times this year, and we can compete with the big boys. Thursday’s meet should be a good one.”

Norwich hosts Holland Patent Thursday at 5:30 p.m.. Before the meet, the Tornado will recognize its senior swimmers.

GREENE – Greene won back-to-back games for the second time this season, and did so on consecutive nights topping Delhi Tuesday.
