Arson suspect in custody following investigation
NORWICH – A man believed to be responsible for a fire that destroyed a portion of a local business on the morning after Thanksgiving was arrested in the City of Elmira, according to the New York State Police.
Michael J.C. Golotty, 25, Norwich, was arrested after an investigation into a fire at the Storage Center LLC on county Route 32 in the Town of Norwich that occurred during the early morning hours of Nov. 29, 2013.
Golotty was charged with one count of third degree arson, a class A felony; one count of third degree burglary, a class D felony; and a total 40 counts of third degree criminal mischief, class E felonies – one count for each of the storage lockers where content was destroyed as a result of the blaze, troopers said.
Chenango County District Attorney Joe McBride said, “Mr. Golotty is being charged for allegedly knowingly and intentionally setting fire to a storage locker. At this time we have no information that leads us to believe that the incident was drug related.”
McBride said, “Mr. Golotty was arraigned in Norwich Town Court and sent to Chenango County jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail ... A felony hearing has been scheduled for him on Thursday, Feb. 6 and the matter will be presented to a grand jury for indictment later within the month.”
