Registration for the 2014 GCAT begins

CHENANGO COUNTY – The Greater Chenango Aquatics Team also known as the GCATs is proud to announce that the swim club will be starting its third long course season of USA Swimming.
Registration for the Greater Chenango Aquatics Team begins March 24, 2014. The program consists of three different camps for two six-week sessions. The first six-week session is a technique camp where the emphasis will be placed on developing good swim habits, proper technique, and the new technical aspects of competitive swimming for the purpose of long-term development and injury prevention. Swimmers will work on developing all four strokes, proper head position, bodyline and balance, starts, turns and finishes. Everyone will receive instruction and feedback throughout the six weeks.
This camp is for those new to swimming, those interested in pursuing competitive swimming as a sport, those who would like to refine technique, and those who would like to maintain aerobic training. “The kids don't have to know how to swim well to be a part of this team, they just have to love to swim,” said head coach Saundra Gantt “We will teach them the fundamentals of competitive swimming to make it easier in the end. Swim smarter, not harder."
The second six-week session comprises of two six week camps – a training camp and an elite camp. The training camp is an extension of the Technique Camp with an increase level of training. Swimmers will be placed into training groups according to ability where they will learn proper training and race strategy. Workouts and lessons will be training age appropriate.
The elite camp is a more intense version of the training camp and will emphasize conditioning and proper training of the body’s major energy systems, race strategy, nutrition and the swimmers will start or continue a dryland or strength training program. “Swimmers need to be prepared to get outside their comfort zone,” Gantt said.
All camps are also open for college swimmers to register and prepare for their upcoming seasons.
The team is open to all boys and girls in Chenango County and surrounding areas ages six to 21 years old. Registration is scheduled Monday March 24 at the Norwich High School Cafeteria from 5-6:30 p.m. and Wednesday, March 26 at the Greene High School pool lobby from 5-6:30 p.m. For more information, please inquire at gcatswimming@yahoo.com or on Facebook www.facebook.com/swimgcats.
