Afton Central encourages early registration
AFTON – While it may seem a bit early to think about enrolling school-aged children for the upcoming 2014-2015 academic school year, administrators and staff at Afton Central are putting the word out to parents and guardians in an effort to get ahead of the deadline.
Approaching quickly on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, the Afton Elementary School will be holding a Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten parent/guardian information night in the elementary cafeteria starting at 6 p.m.
Children that will be turning four on or before December 1, 2014, are eligible for enrollment into the Pre-Kindergarten, and while the district office does its best to solicit applications into the program it is not guaranteed that every family will receive it. Parent are encouraged to contact the elementary office at 639-8234 if they have not received an application packet.
Applications will be accepted until noon on Friday, May 16. There will be a morning and an afternoon program.
Children turning five on or before December 1, 2014, are eligible for Kindergarten, and registration packets are available at the elementary office for those as well.
An informative meeting has been scheduled for parents who intend on enrolling their children in the Afton School District Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarden for the 2014-2015 school year.
Kindergarten registration and screening for students not currently enrolled in Pre-K program will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Children with last names beginning with letters A-N, please plan to arrive between 9 and 11:30 a.m. Last name beginning with the letters O-Z, please plan to arrive between noon and 2 p.m. You can expect the screening process to take from one to two hours.
Parents or guardians should report to the elementary school office during the registration day with the completed registration packet along with the child’s birth certificate, social security card, immunization records, proof of residency and court/custody paperwork, if applicable. Parents are reminded to be sure to bring their children along.
