Local artists to show in 'First Friday'

BINGHAMTON – A pair of Chenango County artists who have spent the bulk of their lives honing their brand of visual arts will be teaming up to push the boundaries of their audience to the triple cities.

Jill Kraft of Norwich and L. Emma Mills from the hills of Oxford have combined efforts to organize a showing as a part of the Binghamton “First Fridays Art Walk” series.

Since 2004, the First Friday Art Walk has been presented by the Gorgeous Washington Street Association and is considered the signature event highlighting the area’s growing arts community.

First Friday patrons enjoy gallery hopping, art openings, music and theater shows, fine dining, cafes, entertainment and merchants’ special events.

Since 2007, Artist L. Emma Mills has enjoyed showing her works multiple times in Tampa, Florida – including University of South Florida, West Tampa Centre for the Arts, Sacred Grounds Coffee House and has permanent displays of works at WTCA and Kaleisia Tea Lounge.

After relocating to New York, her works have been shown in several Norwich venues and businesses, and extensively in Binghamton at Hawley Street Student Housing, Agros Greek Restaurant, Binghamton Universities student and faculty gallery, Grand Royale Hotel, and Chenango Place on Court Street.

“I received no early formal training in the visual arts; only parental guidance through self exploration. It left me with an extensive conceptual foundation needing to be carefully groomed,” explained Mills. “I was 18 when I first experienced formal Arts training and I have been eating it up.”
