Relay for Life's "Rockin' for a Cure" dinner in Norwich
NORWICH – There’s a whole lotta cookin’ goin’ on with the Emmanuel Episcopal Church’s Outreach Committee. They’re having a chart topping chicken and biscuits benefit dinner and Chinese Auction on Saturday, May 10, “That’ll be the day…” from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Their dinner plans for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life (RFL) of Chenango County plans to “Set new records to rock and roll cancer free!” This year’s fun theme will make you want to slip on your blue suede shoes and cruise on over to the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, at 37 West Main Street in Norwich. They’ll be “All shook up” if you don’t make it and there might even be a rock ‘n’ roll celebrity guest sighting.
The RFL of Chenango County has chosen the creative theme of Rock and Roll and they will carry it through in all the fund raising events, teams and decorations. Relay teams could come up with names such as Rage Against Cancer, We Do Run Run, Smells Like Team Spirit, or Funds and Roses.
Come “Hungry Like the Wolf” because the Relay’s groovin’ dinner menu will include “Love Me Tender” chicken and biscuits, smashing real garlic mashed potatoes, far out peas with baby carrots, cool coleslaw (donated by The Ontario Hotel), king crimson cranberry sauce, and thirst quenching beverages. “Great Balls of Fire,” don’t forget your dessert, it’s a yummy brownie Sundae.
Rock stars, roadies and fans you don’t need a VIP pass as prices for this great fundraiser are just: $7 for adults; $5 for children (aged 6-12); and FREE for children aged 5 and under! All you can eat, in-house only! Take-outs are available (and deliveries within Norwich City limits). All proceeds will benefit this year’s Relay For Life of Chenango County so please “Help!” and set new records! Call ahead: 334-8801. For a fun day, you can go to the Oxford American Legion Auxiliary’s Great Garage Sale and Bake Sale at Post 376 from 8-2, and have plenty of time to get to the Emmanuel Church for the Relay dinner starting at 4:30! This May 10 dinner is sponsored by the Emmanuel Episcopal Church Outreach Committee. Donations will be gladly accepted.
According to RFL of Chenango County event chair, Marie DeSarro, “The Chinese Auction will take place during the Relay dinner, and there will be around 20 fantastic baskets to vie for! The Committee will be serving the dinner, running the auction, and selling Relay luminaries.
The Emmanuel Episcopal Outreach Committee is chaired by Jim Everard. They have a variety of programs to assist people in need such as gas vouchers for medical appointments, assistance with water/electric/heating bills (not rent), providing handicap equipment, and with prescription/medical necessities. They also support the Our Daily Bread food pantry, provide space for Scouts/organization’s meetings, provide a Thanksgiving meal, and 100 Thanksgiving food baskets. Charlie McMullen said, “If you need help, come in and find out about eligibility.”
