ACES aims to keep kids healthy

SHERBURNE – Kids at Sherburne-Earlville Elementary School participated in a yearly event on Wednesday that encouraged them to get fit, stay active, and live a healthy lifestyle.

For the 22nd year, the All Children Exercise Simultaneously (ACES) program took to the grounds of the Sherburne-Earlville Elementary School, drawing every student in kindergarten through grade five outdoors for a series of fitness activities that proves exercise can be engaging and fun.

“We do this every year to promote health and fitness and encourage kids to be more active,” explained S-E physical education teacher Mary Thomas. “It’s something that the kids really get excited about. Kids should be active every day and it’s a matter of health.”

While the exercise routine of ACES has stayed the same over the years, Thomas said the goal is to keep kids excited by presenting new ways of staying fit every year. This year, they were introduced to dance as a fitness routine with a performance from students and instructors from Schmitt Sisters Dance.
