Accident results in DWI arrest

AFTON – On Friday, May 16 there was a motor vehicle accident on County Road 39/Corbin Road. A call was made to 911 at 9:20 p.m. after a witness saw a pickup truck on its roof in the ditch. Only one vehicle was involved in the accident. According to the police report there was an injured driver and no statement of injury for the other passenger.
“The most serious situation was the driver,” said Public Information Officer Nathan Riegal of the State Police, Troop C. “The investigation determined that alcohol was a factor in the accident.”
Allegedly, the driver Edward Youmans, Jr., 62, was under the influence of alcohol when he rolled his vehicle into the ditch. He had to be extricated from his vehicle and was immediately transported by ambulance to Wilson Hospital. Youmans sustained minor cuts on his left arm and a serious laceration on his right ear, said Riegal.
While at the hospital he consented to a blood test and the results are still pending. After Youmans' injuries were treated he was arrested for driving while intoxicated.
