NORWICH – Thousands of car buffs are expected to visit the Chenango County Fairgrounds this Memorial Day weekend for the display of American pride as the Rolling Antiquers Old Car Club hosts the 49th annual Auto Show and Flea Market.

The show in Norwich has been hailed as one of the largest and long-lasting car shows in the Northeast, drawing in hundreds of automobiles and more than 10,000 visitors from across the region and beyond. Gates open at 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday and will remain open rain or shine until 5 p.m. both days. General admission is $5, but children under the age of 12 will gain free admittance.

“This show brings a lot of people into the Norwich area for hotels and motels. They shop at local venues and eat at the restaurants ... It really is something that adds to our local economy,” said Sewain Conklin, president of the Rolling Antiquer’s Old Car Club of Norwich. “A lot of people really look forward to this every year, especially car lovers. It’s viewed as a kick-off for the early summer car show season.”

This year will be no different. The show will feature a variety of old cars, trucks, military vehicles, muscle cars, motorcycles, tractors and old engines. Of course, being an outdoor show means attendance is weather pending, Conklin noted. And with spotty showers in the forecast, there’s no telling how it might affect the number of vehicles that roll in.
