Norwich girls track wins Section IV Class B title

The Norwich women’s track and field team won the Section IV Class B Championship, scoring 22 more points that the second place school on Thursday.
The Purple Tornado racked up 115.00 total points, compared to 93 for second place Maine Endwell.
“I honestly don’t know if we’ve ever won Class B’s before,” said Norwich varsity Track & Field head coach Shaun Horan.
According to Oneonta’s Daily Star website, Norwich has not won in at least six years, with Oneonta winning twice over that time period.
Norwich’s Brooke Bonney and Matt Murray repeat as Class B champions, with Murray winning the 400m and 800m and Bonney taking home the shot put and discus titles.

She is consistently setting the bar,” Horan said.
Morgan Hagenbuch placed third for the women in the 100m hurdles.
“Anybody who placed in the top three at Class B is automatically into the State Qualifiers,” Horan said.
Emily Shattuck placed third in the 100m dash with a time of 13.68.
Sydney Chaffee paced second in the 400m dash with a time of 1:01.37.
In the 400m hurdles, Hagenbuch took second with a time of 1:08.70.
The girls won the 400m relay by three tenths of a second, with a time of 52.16.
Hagenbuch took home the long jump championship with a jump measuring 16’03.25.
Emily Shattuck placed third in the event.
Caroline Stewart and Vanessa Salerno finished first and third respectively in the triple jump.
Elizabeth Eddy placed fourth in the pole vault, tying a school record with a vault of 7’06.
“The girls had a ton of great performances,” Horan said, “ The stood behind each other.”
Norwich men’s track and field team finished fourth, scoring 62 points at the Section IV Class B meet in Oneonta.
Matt Murray’s final time in the 400m dash was nearly four seconds faster than second place.
His 800m run time of 1:56.30 was over three seconds faster than the runner up.
Adrian Moses placed third in the long jump, with a jump of 18’10. just two feet shy of first place.
Moses also placed third in the triple jump.
Storm Cook is automatically a participant in the State Qualifiers with a third place finish in the high jump.
The boys 4x1 relay team placed fourth and David Bernstein finished second in discus.
“The seeds for state qualifiers have been decided... In the individual events we are going to be very competitive.
We have a good chance to get a few wins here and have a good end to our season,” Horan said.
