Structural work keeps fairgrounds going strong

NORWICH – With fair season not too far on the horizon, county employees are putting blood and sweat into renovating the 100-plus year old exhibition hall at the fairgrounds.
Laborers recently finished work of the sides and foundation of the circa 1900 building, which had become deteriorated over the years. Financial support from the RC Smith Foundation, the Roger Follett Foundation, and the Greater Norwich Foundation allowed for installation of new posts, supports, doors, internal finish and external surfacing.
LD Dexheimer and Son, Inc., of Guilford, raised the sides of the building and provided support for the 150-foot span of the structure until the walls and the foundation were replaced.
The Chenango County fairgrounds exhibition hall is a multi-purpose structure during the fair, housing a number of displays which include the flower show, Grange kitchen and exhibits, Baker's Sugar Shack and maple exhibits, the crop, vegetables and forage exhibit, Master Gardeners, the Chenango County Historical Society, household arts, and school arts.
The structure also serves a number of other functions throughout the year, including the Rolling Antiquers Old Car Club annual show, the Chenango Blues Fest, Fourth of July events, the annual Chenango County Historical Society Antique Show, and Dairy Day.
