GREENE – The Chenango District of the Baden-Powell Council of the Boy Scouts of America held their annual Chenango District Volunteers Recognition Dinner at the United Methodist Church in Greene on Tuesday, June 3rd.
The dinner honored all district volunteers with leadership, training, and volunteerism awards. The two capstone awards for the ceremony were the Chenango District George Blood Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award and the District Award of Merit.
The 2014 George Blood honoree was Anne Ward of Norwich, recognizing her long Scouting history .
“She was quite literally born into Scouting in 1931,” said Dan Ward, Chenango District Commissioner and son of the aforementioned Ward. “After making sure she and her mother were fine her father, Herbert Horton – a Scout Council Executive at the time – left the hospital that same evening to attend a local Boy Scout Troop's court of honor.”
Mrs. Ward's Scouting history spans decades and multiple positions, and even at age 83 she continues to serve. She is the daughter, sister and wife of Eagle Scouts and the mother of five Eagle Scouts from Norwich Troop 63, a Girl Scout 1st Class, and grandmother of two Eagle Scouts.
From 1958 to 1980, Mrs. Ward served as both Committee Member and Cub Scout Den Leader of Pack 63 in Norwich.
She currently serves as the Chenango District and Baden-Powell Council Chaplain and Boy Scout summer camp and international trips benefactor.
In addition to Mrs. Ward's award, the 2014 Chenango District Award of Merit recipient was also named at the dinner.
Theresa Famalaro-Schulties was recognized for her years of service and accomplishments. She too is a mother of an Eagle Scout and currently serves as the Cub Scout Pack and Boy Scout Troop 51 leader of Afton.
Also a member of the Chenango District and Baden-Powell Council Camping Committee Member, Schulties spends a great deal of her time coordinating Cub Scout adventure weekends, overseeing camping in the Chenango District and volunteering at the Tuscarora Scout Reservation.
