Heroin dealer and others appear in county court

NORWICH – There were appearances in Chenango County Court on Monday for pleas, sentencing and sex offender risk level determination.
• Randy R. Buck, 29, Sherburne, appeared in court for his plea and sentencing. He changed his plea from not guilty to guilty of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree, a class D. He was sentenced to one year incarceration followed by one year post release supervision, as well as fees to be paid one year after his release totaling $325. Any time Buck has served previous to his sentence will be credited towards his current sentence.
In Columbus in 2013, Buck was arrested after being discovered with six glassine envelopes of heroin with the intent to sell. He was charged with the possession of the controlled substance heroine.
“His only problem is drugs,” said First Assistant District Attorney Stephen Dunshee. “He has come to terms (with his addiction).”
When asked if he wanted to make a statement Buck said, “I would just like to say sorry for what I've done and I would like to move forward... I hope this makes me a better person.”
“You've accepted your involvement,” said Honorable Judge Frank Revoir, Jr. and explained that this is a positive change as Buck has a history of denying his addiction and resulting criminal acts. “Good for you for standing up...You look a lot better today than the first time I saw you.”
• Jason R. Chase, 30, Cortland, appeared in court where he rejected an offer made by the court that involved five years in the state department of corrections followed by three year post release supervision. Chase could face up to a twelve year sentence after he was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a class B felony. Chase will appear in court at a later date for his hearing.
• Richard G. Cummings, Jr., 44, Wisconsin, appeared in court for a sex offender risk level determination. Registered in Wisconsin, Cummings moved into the county and is required to be registered under New York State law. The court will submit its determination in writing at a later date.
