The Place receives $90,000
NORWICH – The Christian Neighborhood Center of Norwich, Inc., and The Place will be signing a contract with the Chenango County Department of Social Services this week to run the Summer Youth Employment Program, a program of New York State.
New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) has designated $90,852 to make this program possible in Chenango County. The program is designed to provide young people from low-income households with valuable work experience and a much-needed paycheck.
“We are excited to announce that the funding received by NYS will allow us to place 54 youth at host sites throughout Chenango County this summer,” said The Place Executive Director Rebecca Sands. According to Sands, Communities served will include Norwich, Earlville, Oxford, Sherburne, Bainbridge and Greene.
The program is slated to start on July 7th and will wrap up on August 1st. Youth work part-time, five days a week and will not only have the opportunity to gain work experience, but they will also be provided with training opportunities including resume writing, professionalism in the workplace, interviewing tips, and financial literacy.
The Place is currently accepting applications for employment in the program. Participants must be between the ages of 14 and 20 and TANF eligible. Applications are due by Wednesday, June 18, 2014. Stop by The Place or call 336-9696 x103 for an application.
