Centennial Reunion Committee announces NHS all class reunion update
NORWICH – The Centennial Reunion Committee has announced that a list of all Norwich High School graduates will be available for the first time at the reunion on July 5, 2014.
Created privately by a couple of people, the information is on a CD, and consists of a list by class year and an alphabetical list by surname. It was derived from archives, graduation programs, and class reunion books, and begins with the class of 1886 and concludes with the class of 2014.
This work contains more than 15,000 alumni, and will be available for a small charge – to cover material costs – for the first time at the reunion.
Many schools have an alumni association. An example is available on the web – Sidney High School. One of the most popular features on some alumni websites is obituaries. Many alumni pass away in locations far removed from Norwich, and there is never any local record. A friend or relative may submit the obituary for the website. There will be an opportunity at the reunion to indicate interest in forming an NHS alumni association, at the same location at which the list of alumni is available.
The all-class reunion will conclude – appropriately for the Fourth of July weekend – with a fireworks display after the evening concert. In doubt up until now due to financial concerns, the fireworks has been rescued by several local organizations and a few individuals. Stepping up with donations were NBT Bank, The Ontario Hose Co., The Maydole Hose Co., The Alert Hose Co., the George Rider Hook and Ladder Co., Norwich Rotary, Burrell Excavating, American Legion Post 189, and Thompson Brothers. It was discovered that fireworks on the Fourth of July weekend are more expensive than at other times. Contributions are still welcome.

It was reported that attendance at the reunion promises to be large, with several alumni planning to attend who have not been back to Norwich in many years. Enthusiasm from the Centennial Parade – held on May 23, 2014 – and one of the best Norwich has seen in many years, has carried over to the reunion.
