United Way Day of Caring seeks hygiene products on Saturdayv

NORWICH – The Chenango United Way is set to kick-off its annual Day of Caring this Saturday, and if past experiences are any indication community members will see scores of caring volunteers out doing their part to make a difference this weekend.

Historically, the event has been a day long event that has proven beneficial to hundreds of community partners throughout the years, as United Way board members and volunteers travel throughout the county and lend a helping hand, and this year should prove to be no different.

This year, committee members of the charitable organization decided to do something a little different in an effort to fulfill unmet need within the community.

“This year we are implementing a massive county-wide hygiene collection to stock the shelves of area food pantries,” said United Way Executive Director Elizabeth Monaco.

While most people take for granted something as simple as shaving cream, deodorant or toothpaste, less fortunate community members who seek the assistance from area food pantries and outreach programs such as soup kitchens are often left to go without personal care items.
