SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville took a step in the right direction Monday night, albeit in a defeat to Oneida.
The Indians' Taylor Schneider snapped a one-all tie with 2:14 left in the game to give her team the victory.
"Even though there was no practice between games, this was a 100 percent improvement over the weekend," said S-E coach Sheila Cooman. "The defense was better, we put pressure on their goalie...I really wish we could have pulled out the win."
S-E took a 1-0 lead into halftime on a perfectly executed penalty corner. Megan Rodman inserted the ball into the circle where Emma Hodges took the ball in and delivered the opening goal.
Whitney Coleman tied the game for Oneida just 4:34 into the second half.
The Marauders host New York Mills Thursday.

NORWICH – Norwich freshman Caroline Stewart secured the clinching team point in tougher-than-expected victory over Johnson City Monday.
Norwich already had three team points in the book with three matches still in the balance when Stewart came from behind in the second set to finish off Molly Secord at second singles, 6-4, 7-5.
Taylor Stroh had a straight sets win at fourth singles, and Norwich's doubles teams of Sam Gage-Cohley-Acenowr along with Marysa Campbell-Robyn Berger picked up straight sets wins.
Norwich hosts Windsor on Wednesday.

CHENANGO FORKS – Chenango Forks scored all of its goals in the second half breaking through against Norwich's stingy defense Monday.
Norwich held its opponent without a goal in the first half for the fourth straight game. Forks' Mckenna Williams broke up the shutout two minutes into the second half, and Brooke Crowningshield followed up that goal with one of her own just one minute later.
"Chenango Forks is a very good team that passes it well and works well together," said Norwich coach Adam Sprague. "We played a strong defensive first half, but were unable to maintain it."

UV captures Oxford Tournament
OXFORD – Unadilla Valley won games on Thursday and Saturday night, the latter contest a 4-2 victory over Edmeston to capture the Oxford Tournament.
Tied at two goals apiece at the half, the Storm put away the only two tallies of the second half. Sierra Badger, Jessica Smith, and Hunter Lakin were credited with the goals.
Thursday, UV blanked Schenevus 5-0.
Smith and Julia Oglesby scored in the first half, and Oglesby, Gramstad, and Emily Converse scored in the second half to pad the advantage.
"My captains Emily Converse, Nikki Gramstad, Sierra Badger and Hunter Lakin led the team with hard work and positive reinforcement," said UV coach Diane Hayes. "We are a young team, but we have the desire to win and to work hard."
Converse, Abbie Oglesby, Julia Oglesby and Badger were named tournament all-stars.

COPES CORNERS - A defensive miscue allowed Edmeston to score the game's only goal in a shutout win at G-MU Monday.
Samantha Dunham picked up a pass from teammate Amanda Tersigni after the Raiders made a failed clear attempt, and scored with 5 1/2 minutes left in the first half.
G-MU held a significant advantage in ball possession over the last 20 minutes of the second half, but did not have any high quality shots on goal. "I felt we dominated most of the game," said G-MU coach Meghan Benoit. "We had plenty of opportunities and played really well together. We just couldn't put it in the back of the net."
G-MU (0-3) hosts Laurens Wednesday.

Cody Pritchard, playing in the bottom spot of the SV lineup, led his team with a 39 over the new nine at C.C.C. and shared overall medalist honors with Norwich sophomore Ryan Johnson.
NHS number two man Joe Mioduszewski had two birdies en route to a 41, Nate Scheer shot a 44, Alex Gage a 46, and Connor Nial completed the Tornado scorecard notching a 52. “I was disappointed and I felt the pain (of this loss) for the kids as much as any bad round that I have shot in my lifetime,” said Norwich coach David Branham.

"It went about as expected and the score line doesn't look it, but even though we had a minimum of opportunities, we had two great opportunities," said S-E coach Mike Rodriguez. "The defense is still a work in progress, but we're looking to see the offense grow and become bolder."
