Other testimony from Monday's Ramsaran trial
• Julie Wallen, an employee of the Norwich Family YMCA for approximately 10 years testified to seeing the defendant in the early afternoon of Dec. 11, 2012.
She told the jury Ramsaran said he was pretty cold because he ran from his house, that his wife was shopping in Syracuse, and he asked to use the phone. She said she did not remember him talking to anyone, and didn’t see him again until he left. Wallen told McBride that he called a friend for a ride because he didn’t want to run home, and she did see him leave the building.
• Richard Caputo — step-father of material witness Eileen Sayles — took the stand and testified that Ramsaran had a conversation with Caputo when he came to his home.
Caputo said he welcomed Remy — as he said he calls him — into his home and they sat at the table where Remy proceeded to tell Caputo that he was sexually involved with Eileen.
“They were soul mates was the exact term he used,” said Caputo.
When asked about his emotional state, Caputo said, “He was very upset but he was more upset — in my opinion — that Eileen had returned back to her husband than about his missing wife.”
Caputo added that he asked Ramsaran how the children were doing with Jennifer being missing, and he said the defendant told him, “They’re tough, they’ll be alright.”
Additionally Caputo said he was not aware of the year-long affair between Sayles and Ramsaran. “I was a bit shocked,” he said. “Until that time I defended my step-daughter; I just thought they were running partners.”
• Michael Layman, a Sergeant with the New York State Police said he had contact with Ramsaran while off duty at the Norwich Family YMCA on the day Jennifer went missing.
When McBride asked Layman if anything unusual happened on Dec. 11, 2012 he said that between 12:30 and 1 p.m., Ramsaran entered the sauna at the YMCA and told Layman he had ran from home, and that his wife went to Syracuse shopping.
“He told me he ran from home and that his hands were cold and he should have worn gloves,” Layman said.
