Norwich volleyball team stays unbeaten

NORWICH – Unbeaten Norwich shook off a slow start to defeat Johnson City at home Thursday, 26-24, 25-18, 25-19.
Vanessa Salerno had her best game of the season posting 10 kills, three aces, and three stuff blocks. Cassie Birtch racked up 10 assists, and Meghan Komendarek put away a team-high 11 kills.
Norwich trailed for much of the first game until a timeout was called by head coach Shelly Alger. "After the timeout, we did a good job of turning the tide in the match," Alger said. "Vanessa held us in tonight; she played really well."
Norwich (3-0) is idle until Sept. 16 when it visits Windsor

NORWICH – Norwich coach Kevin Diefenbacher found the silver lining in Thursday’s home loss to powerhouse Owego.
“We had four personal-best times, and all of our relay combinations swam their best times this season,” Diefenbacher said. “We told the girls before the meet that we wanted them to swim faster than the previous meet. Just about every girl was faster. Some of the girls may not have had their fastest time ever, but the biggest positive is that they are swimming faster now than they were at this point last season.”
Norwich closed the meet with three straight wins. Lauren Llewellyn captured the backstroke, Maya Blaisure won the breaststroke, and the Tornado 400-meter relay finished first.
Norwich is idle until next Friday when it travels to Susquehanna Valley.
