Cook Park foreman announces resignation
GREENE – Chenango County owned Cook Memorial Park will soon be soliciting applicants for the position of park manager, pending the resignation of current park manager Douglas Croley.
Corley, who has served as the park’s head foreman for seven years, announced his resignation to the Chenango County Agriculture, Buildings and Grounds Committee last month. He will be pursuing opportunities with the New York State Parks Department.
With no one in mind for the position, Chenango County Buildings and Grounds Director Julie Gates said the position is likely to be advertised in the coming weeks. The newcomer will be hired on a provisional status, pending that he or she pass a required state civil service examination.
“He has done a great job for us,” Gates said at a September meeting of the county’s Ag, Buildings and Grounds Committee. “This is a good opportunity for him and we’re lucky to have had him.”
“This is an opportunity I can’t turn away,” said Crowley, adding that he will stay with Cook Memorial Park through Nov. 1 to close park operations for the winter. “Everything will be ready for the person who comes in to manage the park next.”
