Man released against DA’s recommendation
NORWICH – Norwich Police arrested a 27-year-old Norwich man on an active arrest warrant on Wednesday, and against the recommendation of Chenango County District Attorney Joseph McBride, the man was released on his own recognizance.
Byron C. Archer, 27, of Norwich, was arrested on an arrest warrant stemming from an investigation conducted by the Norwich Police.
According to the police report, Archer “did strike another individual in the face with a piece of wood.” Police said this was done in the presence of a child.
Archer was arrested for assault in the second degree, a class D felony; criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, a class A misdemeanor; and endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.
During the arrest, police said Archer was found to be unlawfully in possession of marijuana and was subsequently cited for that additional violation.
McBride recommended that Archer be remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility in lieu of $30,000 bail.
The judge at the arraignment released Archer on his own recognizance, and he is to appear in Norwich City Court to answer to his charges at a later date.
