Couple arraigned following domestic dispute, stabbing
NORWICH — Jessica Lennox, 21, of Norwich was arraigned on Tuesday for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend in front of the couple's child during a domestic dispute. The alleged stabbing victim Domenick Lepera, 22, of Norwich was also arraigned for allegedly striking girlfriend Lennox.
The couple appeared before Judge James E. Downey in Norwich City Court.
Lennox was charged with assault in the second degree, a class D felony; criminal mischief in the fourth degree, a class A misdemeanor; criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, a class A misdemeanor; endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor; and harassment in the second degree, a violation.
Lepera was charged with criminal obstruction of breath or blood, a class A misdemeanor; endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor; assault in the third degree, a class A misdemeanor; and harassment in the second degree, a violation.
It is alleged that on or about Oct. 20, at approximately 10:26 p.m., Lennox and Lepera engaged in a domestic dispute in front of their two-year-old son. “Both parties were engaged in domestic violence behavior in front of the child,” said Assistant District Attorney Michael Ferrarese.
Lepera allegedly caused bodily harm to Lennox by repeatedly striking her in the face and body with his hands and feet. He also allegedly put his hand around her throat and choked her. Lennox sustained bruises on her arms, legs, neck and back.
Lennox allegedly caused bodily harm to Lepera by striking him several times with her hands. She also allegedly threw his cell phone against a wall, causing cracks on the screen. Lennox then allegedly stabbed Lepera several times in the hands with a 6-inch cerated steak knife. Lepera sustained lacerations to his hands.
“This is a serious charge she has against her. His wounds required stitches,” said Ferrarese. “She could face up to seven years.”
Downey agreed with Ferrarese and told Lennox she cannot have any contact with Lepera. He also told her if she violates the no contact order, she could face another felony.
“He has to move, since it's your home you both live in,” said Downey. “I am also going to tell him that he cannot have any contact with you or your child.”
When Lepera was arraigned, Downey told him that he would have to file a petition to family court “regarding visitation with his son.” He also told him that he could face a class A felony if he violated the no contact order with Lennox or his son.
Ferrarese requested Lennox be remanded on a $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond. He requested Lepera be remanded on a $2,000 cash bail or $4,000 bond.
He said both defendants pose a flight risk because of the severity of their charges and because neither of them are originally from the area and both have out-of-state contacts.
Both Lennox and Lapera are originally from New Jersey and relocated to Norwich to be closer to family.
Lennox and Lepera were remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on a $500 cash bail or $1,000 bond.
