Ramsaran arrested after allegedly bribing a Corrections Officer to help him escape
NORWICH — Ganesh R. Ramsaran, the man recently convicted of murdering his wife in 2012, has been arrested again Tuesday by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office.
According to authorities, Ramsaran was charged with bribery in the second degree, a class C felony.
It is alleged that Ramsaran offered a Chenango County Corrections Officer $100,000 to help him escape from the jail.
“The Corrections Officer immediately notified his supervisor of the attempt,” read a release from the Sheriff’s Office.
The Chenango County District Attorney’s Office assisted in the investigation.
District Attorney Joseph McBride said, “He (Ramsaran) was arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court at approximately 5 p.m. Tuesday.”
Ramsaran was remanded back to the Chenango County Correctional Facility in lieu of $1,000,000 cash bail or $2,500,000 property bond.
McBride said with this charge, Ramsaran could be facing 15 years in the New York State Department of Corrections, adding that those years could run consecutive to the sentence handed down by the Chenango County Court for his second degree murder charge.
Ramsaran is set to be sentenced for the murder charge on Dec. 1, 2014.
McBride said Ramsaran’s felony hearing for the bribery charge is scheduled for this Friday in the Town of Norwich Court.
Additional information will appear in Wednesday's edition of The Evening Sun.
