Authorities: Ramsaran bribed Corrections Officer to aid in escape

NORWICH — Ganesh R. Ramsaran, the man recently convicted of murdering his wife in 2012, has been arrested again Tuesday by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office.

According to authorities, Ramsaran was charged with bribery in the second degree, a class C felony.

It is alleged that Ramsaran offered a Chenango County Corrections Officer $100,000 to help him escape from the jail.

“The Corrections Officer immediately notified his supervisor of the attempt,” read a release from the Sheriff’s Office.

The Chenango County District Attorney’s Office assisted in the investigation.

District Attorney Joseph McBride said, “He (Ramsaran) was arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court at approximately 5 p.m. Tuesday.”

Chenango County Sheriff Ernest R. Cutting Jr. said it is very rare for an inmate in the Chenango County Correctional Facility to devise a plan such as Ramsaran did.
