Norwich Theater Company presents ‘White Christmas’

NORWICH – It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas, and with that in mind The Norwich Theater Company is pleased to announce the presentation of Irving Berlin’s holiday classic “White Christmas” on Nov. 21 – 23 at the Chenango Arts Council in Norwich.
Directed by Richard Heim, “White Christmas” will be choreographed by Bernie Windsor and feature vocal direction by Meena Conant and musical direction by Greg Maistros.
The cast ensemble will feature leads Michael Gray (Bob Wallace) and Kyle LaFever (Phil Davis) along with Jenni Larchar as Betty Haynes and Jennifer Winslow as Judy Haynes.
Based on the beloved timeless film starring Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye, the quintessential heartwarming musical adaptation tells the story of two famous World War II veterans who create a successful post-war song-and-dance team. With romance in mind, the two partners follow a duo of beautiful singing sisters en route to their Christmas show at a Vermont lodge, which just happens to be owned by the vets’ former army commander.
With laughter, love, and crazy plot turns, this Broadway-style production includes dazzling standards such as “Blue Skies,” “I Love A Piano,” “Sisters,” and the perennial favorite, “White Christmas.”
“White Christmas” is an uplifting musical perfect for kicking-off our local holiday season. No stranger to the Director's chair, White Christmas will serve as Heim's eighth production.
Heim has starred in nearly all prior productions of the Norwich Theater Company, as well as other productions by Sherburne Music Theater Society, Chenango Community Players and Afton Community Theater. Stage credits include “Annie Get Your Gun,” “Godspell,” “A Christmas Carol,” “Rehearsal for Murder,” “Seussical,” “The Wizard of Oz,” and many more. He remains an integral member of the Norwich Theater Company, serving as a founding Board Member, treasurer and past president. Richard would like to thank the Norwich community for their continued support of the Norwich Theater Company, Inc.
Well-versed Choreographer Bernie Windsor brings more than 30 years of stage production to the fore with assistants Lisa (Scott) Natoli and Laurie (Doliver) Reimel – both former students of The Bernie Windsor Dancentre and graduates of Norwich High School class of '94 – at her side.
Windsor has provided choreography for Norwich High School musicals, Waterville High School and Oxford High School and has served as a choreographer for several community theater productions in Norwich, Sherburne, and Hamilton.
Additionally, from 1978 to 1997, Windsor was the beloved and revered owner and director of The Bernie Windsor Dancentre, producing large and elaborate recitals, and guiding several dancers to Broadway and the professional dance world.
Playing the role of Bob Wallace, Michael Gray steps into the role made famous by Bing Crosby. Gray has performed locally for more than 12 years, with prior roles such as Beast in “Beauty and the Beast” (Orpheus Theater), as the lead in “Jekyll and Hyde” (Afton Community Theater), and nearly all prior productions of Norwich Theater Company. When not performing on stage, Michael can be seen performing as a magician for area events, private parties and Southern Tier organizations.
Jennifer Winslow, playing the role of Judy Haynes, is extremely proud to be joining the Norwich Theater Company in her local performance debut. A past KCACTF Ensemble Award winner, Winslow has performed in several Boston College productions the likes of “Cabaret,” “Pirates of Penzance,” “Rocky Horror Picture Show,” and “Candide.”
Jenni Larchar plays the role of Betty Haynes. From age 12, Larchar has performed with the Cleveland Opera and Cleveland Orchestra Children's Choruses. Larchar has been acclaimed for her performances as Maria in the “Sound of Music” and as Patience in the “Gilbert and Sullivan” musical at the Earlville Opera House. Larchar is also a recipient of the TANYS award of excellence for ensemble work for her roll as Dorothy in “The Wizard of Oz.”
Norwich Theater Company's production of “White Christmas” will be presented on Friday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. at the Martin W. Kappel Theater located within the Chenango Arts Council, 27 W. Main St., Norwich.
Tickets are $12 and may be purchased by visiting the Theater Company’s website at norwichtheatercompany.org, or locally at Hummel’s or Service Pharmacy in Norwich.
