Police: Norwich youth stole AK-47, pills, property
NORWICH – A Norwich youth was arrested Sunday following an investigation into a burglary at a residence where police say an AK-47 was stolen.
According to member of the Norwich Police Department, the 17-year-old male entered and remained unlawfully in a building and stole a number of items.
The youth was charged with burglary in the second degree, a class C felony; criminal possession of stolen property, a class E felony; and petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor.
Police said the youth arrested is a co-defendant and another man was previously arrested.
The co-defendant, Jared S. Quackenbush, homeless, was charged with the class C felony of burglary in the second degree. He was arrested Nov. 18, 2014 following an investigation into a home break-in.
Quackenbush was arraigned and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 cash bail.
“We’ve been investigating a burglary of a Birdsall Street address and the leads brought us to the arrests of two people,” said Norwich City Police Sergeant Gard Turner. “The burglary involved guns, pills and property.”
According to Sergeant Reuben Roach, the AK-47 that he said was stolen by the youth was recovered by New York State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team (CNET).
The male was arraigned in Norwich City Court and was remanded to the CCCF in lieu of $5,000 cash bail.
He is to appear in court at a later date.
Sgt. Turner said no one was home at the time and no one was hurt.
