Eight indicted by grand jury
NORWICH— The Chenango County Grand Jury indicted eight individuals for violence, theft and other drug and alcohol related crimes on Nov. 19.
• Anthone J. Fisher, 22, Norwich, was indicted on the charges of assault in the second degree, a class D felony; and assault in the third degree, a class A misdemeanor.
It is alleged that on or about Oct. 27 at 4:30 p.m. at the Valley Ridge Center for Intensive Treatment located on County Road 46, Fisher did intentionally cause physical injury to a staff member at the treatment facility. Fisher allegedly threw a dangerous instrument – a wooden table – at the victim, striking her in the head and causing her a concussion.
• William Rochez, 20, Bronx, was indicted on the charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a class B felony; criminal nuisance in the first degree, a class E felony; and criminal impersonation in the second degree, a class A misdemeanor.
It is alleged on or about June 10 at 4:13 p.m. in Room 123 at the Howard Johnson Hotel located on 75 North Broad St. in the City of Norwich, Rochez – while acting in concert with another – did knowingly and unlawfully possess 15 individually wrapped plastic baggy corner wraps of the narcotic drug cocaine, which he intended to sell.
It is also alleged Rochez did knowingly and unlawfully allow individuals to gather in his hotel room for the purpose of engaging in unlawful sales of controlled substances. Rochez allegedly did benefit monetarily from the controlled substance transactions that took place.
When uniformed police officers asked Rochez his name, he allegedly gave the false name of “Jordan Collins” to avoid being arrested on an active warrant out of the New York City Police Department.
• Timothy J. Mayes, 20, Bainbridge, was indicted on the charges of burglary in the second degree, a class C felony; and petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor.
It is alleged that on or about Oct. 9 at 12:40 p.m. at 1 Lewis St. in the Village of Bainbridge, Mayes – while acting in concert with another – did knowingly enter and remain unlawfully in the dwelling of Ellen M. Hurtubise with intent to commit a crime.
It is also alleged Mayes –while acting in concert with another– did commit the crime of petit larceny by stealing the controlled substance clonazepam, a prescription medication, from the victim after entering her residence.
• Michael A. Fletcher, 31, Bainbridge, was indicted on the charge of burglary in the second degree, a class C felony.
It is alleged on or about Oct. 9 at 12:40 p.m. at 1 Lewis St. in the Village of Bainbridge, Fletcher –while acting in concert with another– did knowingly enter and remain unlawfully in the dwelling of Ellen M. Hurtubise with intent to commit a crime. Fletcher allegedly intended to steal controlled substances from the victim's residence.
• Jakell S. Henry, 18, Herkimer, was indicted on the charges of criminal sale of a controlled substance in the third degree, a class B felony and criminal sale of a controlled substance in the fifth degree, a class D felony.
It is alleged on or about a day during the last week of July in the Town of Norwich, Henry did knowingly and unlawfully sell the narcotic drug cocaine.
• Mark A. Barrett, 42, Smithville, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the first degree, a class E felony; aggravated driving while intoxicated, a class E felony; and driving while intoxicated, a class E felony.
It is alleged on or about Sept. 19 at 6:23 p.m. on State Highway 235 in the Town of Coventry, Barrett did operate a 2009 Dodge motor vehicle while in an intoxicated condition with a blood alcohol concentration of .19 of one percent of alcohol. Barrett also allegedly operated the vehicle knowing that his license and driving privilege had been suspended.
• David R. Eaton, 63, Georgetown, was indicted on the charge of driving while intoxicated, a class E felony.
It is alleged on or about Aug. 28 at 11:01 a.m. on North Main St. in the Village of Sherburne, Eaton did operate a 1994 Chevrolet S-10 pick up truck while in an intoxicated condition. Authorities observed that Eaton swayed as he walked, his speech was slurred, his eyes were bloodshot and watery, and his breath smelled strongly of an alcoholic beverage.
• Amanda L. Hopkins, 36, Sherburne, was indicted on the charge of failure to register or verify as a sex offender.
It is alleged on or about May 31, Hopkins –while acting in concert with another– did knowingly create an internet identifier on Facebook and failed to notify the Sex Offender Unit of the Division of Criminal Justice Services or the Chenango County Sheriff's Office of her current internet identifiers.
All indicted individuals are to appear in court at a later date.
